“Faint” by Jacqueline Hochmuth

Beyond the Short Official Premiere

The film immerses us in a poetic way to the inner thought-monologue of a person running away from their anxiety disorder. How does it feel to be caught in the spiral of fear and what makes you step out?

The thoughts fuel the physical response and increase feelings of faint and paralysis. Concentration breaks off, the heart beats twice as fast and breathing seems choked.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“This film is intended to give us a glimpse into the feeling of a panic attack for a brief moment in order to raise awareness for those affected and for those outside of it.

The film reflects my own anxiety disorder, which I suffered from three years ago. The time back then now feels like a fading film. I had a generalized anxiety disorder with elements of depersonalization. This means that at some point, I no longer recognized myself in the mirror and completely lost the sense of my own body.

I constantly tried to remember my former self, but the thoughts kept breaking off. Despite all the energy I invested in holding onto my old self and suppressing the illness, I only lost myself even more.

The film depicts the struggle of the torn inner voice and oscillates between holding on and letting go. It is a theme that is still not fully told and requires further awareness.”
