“Hummingbird” by Dillon M. Banda

Beyond the Short Official Premiere

With ‘Hummingbird’, we find our main character at a transitional point on his journey. We find him in the moments after some sort of disruptive event has shaken up his life - and in this case, separated him from his family - but before he has fully transformed into what his new life and new circumstances demand of him. We then get to witness him undergo a physical transformation, while the very structure of his life transforms as well.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“From an audience perspective, I wanted it to feel as if we are stumbling onto our main character’s life and his story. As if we are, in essence, eavesdropping. As his new life unfolds we see hints of his old life, but if we look closely we notice that he hasn’t brought any tangible remnants of that old life with him. And so all he has - and all we have as an audience - are his memories keeping him tethered to his past.”
