“Imperfect Cycles” by Vinícius Antunes

Life can be seen as a cycle that only begins at the end of a moment, through a spiral of feelings that mixes thoughts, untruths, facts and a story. Lived by all of us. Imperfect Cycle is a film by Vinícius Antunes that doesn't have characters or a single narrative. It is a genuine and sincere reverie, transformed into a quasi-monologue interrupted by a guiding voice. You, I and everyone else can experience the speech. All you have to do is immerse yourself in its unruly images that don't follow the photo caption meaning of traditional cinema. Lights, shadows, landscapes, chaos and urban monotony make up the visual plot. Its dialog, which twists and turns, runs in a cycle that entangles the viewer in a direct and profound conversation.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“In Imperfect Cycle, I challenged myself to provoke feelings and emotions in the viewer without showing faces and expressions. This was a very old ambition. The fact that I didn't show the actors made the novie extremely sensorial and the viewer is inside the movie and these sensations.

The film was made with a wonderful crew who really believed in the ideas and the process, which was split between Brazil and Portugal. Written in Brazil, with Brazilian voices, but filmed and finished in Portugal, the process of creating and directing the film was also a reflection of the film itself, going through various phases within an imperfect cycle.”
