“Valeria” by Genís Baró

Based on the true story of Valeria, a young model caught between her father’s illness and the pressures of the modeling industry, where her image became an obsession that exposed her solitary vulnerability.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Valeria is a model we met during a photoshoot. She opened up to us and shared her story, which deeply touched both Aitor and me. A young woman, far away from her family, sending money home for her father’s treatment while facing the inner struggles with body image and the pressures of the modeling industry. We both felt it was a story worth telling.

The pressure to maintain an image began to change her, just as her father’s condition worsened. As the film unfolds, it metaphorically “undresses” her story, gradually shifting towards something more raw and intimate. In the final scenes, we focus closely on the skin; textured, cold, covered in goosebumps and water droplets. These tactile details speak of bodily obsession, vulnerability, and the silent weight of emotion: the cold, the tears, the pressure. Since Valeria was working in Vietnam when we created the piece, we filmed with another model to represent her; a stand-in not for her appearance, but for her experience.

Through the relationship we built with her, this piece became something truly meaningful for us.
