“Seed” by JT McCreery
This is the real and true story of Sonia, a now twenty-one year old who spent the first 10 years of her life surviving physical, sexual and emotional abuse in her home in the slums of Kolkata, India. At the age of 11, Sonia attempted to end her life once the abuse got so intense that she could no longer cope with it. At this point, SEED stepped in to help and in 2016, Sonia moved into our residential Girls Dream Home, where she finally received the love, care and safety she so desperately deserved. After many years of trauma counseling, dance therapy and love from her house mom and staff, Sonia is ready to tell her story.
FROM THE DIRECTOR
"This is the real and true story of Sonia Sardar, a now twenty-one year old who spent the first 10 years of her life surviving physical, sexual and emotional abuse in her home in the slums of Kolkata, India. Her story is one of compassion, restoration, and resilience.
This project gestated for over 7 years before it came to fruition. @diegocacho_ and @jt_mccreery met Sonia back in 2017 and left their first meeting resolved that if she were ever ready to share her story, they would come back to Kolkata to help her tell it. Thankfully, that is exactly what happened. The work of the @seed.india organization made this film possible through their dedication to the children and families they serve as well as directly developing this project."
