Beyond the Short
We filmed this video in early March, at Gavin Lake Forest Education Centre. This is a camp where my brothers and I were raised, and although we live and work in cities now we often return to the camp to work in seclusion and to visit our family. In many ways this video was an archival project, in that we wanted to capture the energy of this place before it inevitably shifts and changes.
The shooting process was guided by the environment, with a heavy focus on improvisation and documentation. Just as we finished shooting, the mmensity of the COVID pandemic was coming to light, and so we decided as a group to stay at the camp for a while. We lived there together for some time before returning to Vancouver.
