“Maria Parado de Bellido” By Renata Flores
Music video for Renata Flores, Peruvian rising artist recently featured in the NYT as "Peru's Queen of Quechua Rap", in recognition of her audacious fusion of "Latin trap, rap and reggaeton with the sounds and language of the Andean countryside."
Renata Flores is an outstanding artist and a joy to work with. Her latest album project, titled ISQUN ("Nine" in Quechua) celebrates her indigenous identity by focusing on one female Peruvian historical figure per song, aiming to carve a place for Peruvian female heritage in the world of pop music. This video tells the story of Maria Parado de Bellido, a martyr of Peru's war of independence. Beyond a literal retelling of the events of her life, we set out to create a portrait of a heroine, a journey through her life and legacy, aiming to capture her boldness in the face of adversity, her sacrifice for the cause of liberty, and her re-birth through a new generation of audacious, empowered women and men.
