“Blooming” by Zach Closs
Caleb & Kim reflect on their bond, complicated by shared trauma, across three seasons. In Fall, we see the beginnings of their relationship, in Summer, a sort of mid-point limbo, and in Winter, the end of things between them.
A cryptic shared tattoo signalling a shared, long held plan informs much of the action. Caleb and Kim take on each other’s pain, while hiding from their own. The film uses a non-chronological structure to jump between seasons, creating a contrast in performances and visuals between what once was and where the characters are now.

The film was shot across multiple seasons between 2021 and 2022 in order to achieve this contrast.”
