“The Maze” by Clayton Vila

A Haitian professional boxer on the brink of retirement is forced to move to a remote island to support his daughter while trying to keep his dream of becoming a world champion alive. When he starts to fall in love with his daughter's preschool teacher, he begins to question whether or not his dream is worth fighting for.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“As a former professional athlete, I wanted to make a film that captured the identity crisis we athletes endure when we are forced to move on from our sport. No matter the level of success you achieve, every athlete’s situation is the same: your life’s singular commitment is coming to an end. However, when to walk away from it all is never clear, as giving up goes against everything we’ve ever known.”
