“Jimmy Coco” by Jake Kovnat

Beyond the Short Official Premiere

After an unsettling drug experience, Jay wonders if it’s time for him to leave his wild life with Jimmy and set off on his own.

Jay is a disillusioned 18 year-old on the run and Jimmy is an unhinged 40 year-old eccentric. The unlikely duo spend their days in the middle of nowhere scavenging through trash and living out of a trailer at the edge of a lake. After an unsettling drug experience one night, Jay has a rude awakening and wonders if it’s time for him to set off on his own.

Featuring the music of cult legend Daniel Johnston.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

““Jimmy Coco” is based on a number of wild experiences I had growing up and struggling to find my way in Upstate NY. The film was shot outside Toronto in Prince Edward County with a small group of talented artists.

I am especially grateful to our lead actors, Simon Fothergill and Anwar Haj, who went above and beyond to develop the curious relationship between their two characters.

And to The Daniel Johnston estate for granting us the rights to perform a cover of one of my favorite songs, “Life in Vain” by the late legendary artist.”
