“Unsaid (Osagt)” by Sofia Aedo Zahou

"Unsaid" is based on anonymous confessions shared by different individuals in response to the question - “Is there something you wish you had said to someone you once loved and lost—something you left unsaid?"

The film is an abstract visual portrayal of these confessions that touch upon themes such as regret, sorrow, fear and love.

It all started with an instagram post asking the question that then resulted in an outpour of anonymous confessions from different individuals - sharing what they wish they would have expressed but never could.

The core idea and motivation of proceeding with making the film, and behind keeping the confessions as true to how they were written by the different individuals, was for the film to serve as a confessional. A space to offload, to lighten and a space to leave something behind.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“The film is an experimental short with the Swedish title "Osagt" which translates to "Unsaid" in English.

"Unsaid" is based on anonymous confessions that were shared to me by different individuals in response to the question - "Is there something you wish you had said to someone you once loved and lost-something you left unsaid?"

It all started with an instagram post that I posted on my instagram story, asking that same question.

The post resulted in an outpour of anonymous confessions from different individuals - sharing what they wish they would have expressed but never could. Confessions of feelings such as regret, sorrow, fear and love.

Upon reading them I then decided to compile the confessions and started writing and incorporating them into a script that we then ended up developing into this film.

You could say that the film is an abstract visual portrayal of these anonymous confessions that were shared with me with little to no context but that I felt communicated so much even if some of them were simply just a short sentence.

Since this film was originally created for an exhibition at Botkyrka Art Gallery in Stockholm I wanted to ensure that the experience of stepping into the black box would feel like a safe space for the viewer to reflect on what they themselves could have left unsaid in the corners of their own mind and in their own lives.

I think that this initial intention can be felt through many details throughout the film.”
