“Twilight Wanderlust” by Laís Sambugaro
Twilight Wanderlust is a super 8 film-poem about grief, absence and inner landscapes. Approaching reverie and dream, using the grainy, nostalgic quality of Super 8 film, ‘Twilight Wanderlust’ tries to touch the intangible, the emotional landscapes we have and that absence creates.
I like to think of it as much an exploration of absence as it is a meditation on the persistence of longing, the search for meaning in the aftermath of loss. The film does not follow a linear narrative but rather floats between abstract imagery, capturing the disorienting nature of mourning and the often unspoken journey of navigating emptiness.
It is also a way of honoring my mother's life. The act of creating this piece is a means of keeping her alive in a new, deeply personal form—one that transcends words and becomes a living testament to her memory.

FROM THE DIRECTOR
“Twilight Wanderlust is a super 8 film-poem about grief, absence and inner landscapes. It is an intimate and profound way I found to share my own grief after losing my mother. The film is a collage of Super8 footage I shot over the years. In this world, my mother was still physically here. At the time, I filmed without knowing why—without imagining a future context for these frames.
The title itself suggests a longing for something elusive, perhaps a sense of closure or peace, that remains out of reach—much like the fleeting nature of twilight itself.
It is also a way of honoring my mother's life. The act of creating this piece is a means of keeping her alive in a new, deeply personal form—one that transcends words and becomes a living testament to her memory.”
