“Anareta” by Daniel Boocock
Blending fantasy, sci-fi, and action into a striking 45-minute epic, Anareta follows a determined woman as she treks across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic wasteland in search of humanity’s final stronghold. With civilization reduced to shadows and infection spreading like wildfire, the film plunges viewers into a hostile world where myth and survival intertwine. Starring Jessica Olim, Anareta is a visceral journey through desolation, danger, and the lingering hope for redemption.

FROM THE DIRECTOR
“Anareta is a big post-apocalyptic dystopian short, it’s a wild short, a complete break away from stereotypical short film conventions & expectations, it’s a mini-epic with a spectacle & substance feel, there was no playing it safe. Nor should there have been, as the ‘go for it’ approach is what wascreatively required to bring Anareta to life. I really wanted to make it so I was never going to hamstring it in a creative sense. I put everything into making my projects so given how long they take, what they actually cost me (not just in terms of money) then I’m going to make them the way I see them. That’s what gets most people on board in the first place The vision or the way I see the idea. Circumstances & what one has available obviously dictates how far you can go with a project, so many things can go wrong, most do. At times your thinking ‘what is going on!’ Going into Anareta I knew I was going to have to cut many different corners let alone having to deal with anything else that can happen. But in my head, I knew that if I could keep things on an even keel enough, then I could make something which would cinematically stand out even if I was cutting everything a little too close to the bone given what I had available to take Anareta on. Regardless It’s turned out pretty good for the most part. Upscaled someday then it really would give some of the filmmakers at the highest level a run for their money, particularly if the setup was one similar to theirs. But what you see as it is now is the initial spark, not just for the Anaretaidea but also a creative filmmaking style too.”
