“Until You See Me” by Eleanna Santorinaiou

Petros struggles to find the right way to grief as he attends the funeral of a loved one. He is in denial. As the ceremony progresses, he gets more isolated into his own world, filming everything with his Hi8 camera. People “demand” of him to be more normal, but he only wants to be on his own. When he arrives home, exhausted, he must face reality.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

"Until You See Me" is a film about being with yourself and coping within, even when the worst thing happens.

It is also a film about society and what they expect from us in specific occasions. It is about our long-gone childhood, love and loss. It was inspired by an article I had read in 2009 in a Greek free press about a young man going to a funeral of a beloved person and never cried whilst he was there. I find death an aching circumstance that somehow adds value to one's life. The question is, how can you deal with this, being alive? Is there a "normal" approach to grief? It seems like our society accepts and expects a certain behaviour to show you are sad. But Petros is not like that. And this is what the film investigates - a very personal way to accept the very common fact that your loved one has died. As I am very interested in childhood and how it shapes us through life, I have embedded this idea in the film as we see a glimpse of Petros' past and how it defined him in his adult life.”
