“AT NIGHT” by Zoe Simone
AT NIGHT follows Gio as he leads his nightly, all-male running group. As the pacesetter, Gio leads his group with precision, control, and uniformity, but this delicate balance is tested when he allows Santi, a newcomer, to join the unit. While at first Santi closes ranks around Gio like the rest of the boys, he soon begins to challenge Gio’s practices and methods. When Santi exposes a terrible secret Gio has been hiding from the group, and challenges him to a race to become the group’s new leader, Gio must question exactly what he is running for—or from. AT NIGHT is a strange, unsettling, and at times even silly look into masculinity and the loneliness epidemic.
