“The Call of Yamuna” By Azulroto

Synopsis

The call of Yamuna is a story about a young man who returns to Delhi in search of his origins.

Directors statement

We wanted to talk about the feeling of someone who has been raised in a country that is not the place where he and his family belong and who wants to connect with his origins. Our intention was to portray a man divided because of his cultural identity: he feels from nowhere, always out of place. However, his experience visiting Delhi awakes hidden memories.

When we first wrote this story we knew it was very important to find a local actor who could feel related to the story. The problem was we knew nobody in India. However, Instagram made some magic and after some searchs we found the perfect person: Gaurav was exactly how we imagined the character and he knew the city well enough to guide us! We had some online meetings before we arrived to Delhi, where we spent 10 days walking around and finding the best spots and situations for the story. We were lucky enough to stay there during Diwali's celebrations, which was a priceless experience for us. The filming team was formed only by the two of us and Gaurav, which made it easier to move around and to improvise plans.
