“REST” by ANDREW HOLZSCHUH

Official Beyond the Short Premiere

A stranded soul searches an endless desert for his purpose.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

“One day I was exploring google street view when some big empty spots in the US caught my attention. After several hours of research I concluded this would be the perfect location for a short film concept I’ve had floating around in my head for the past decade.

The practical and CG effects were crucial to the story. I worked with my father, an artist and craftsman in many regards, on altering the suitcase to fit our needs with the practical effects. And Joey Deutsch was the VFX artist who brought the suitcase to life. I included the following line of text at the beginning of this film. “Man is a vessel made from stardust, carrying the soul from one side of eternity to the other.”

I encourage the viewer to ruminate on those words as they watch the film. This story has its own meaning to me, but I look forward to hearing what others take away from it. Thanks for watching!”
